From Fabrication Yard to Offshore Platforms — A 15-Year Journey in Piping & Welding Engineering

In the world of oil, gas, and heavy industrial projects, piping and welding are not just construction activities — they are the backbone of safety, reliability, and long-term asset integrity. Over the past 15 years, my professional journey has taken me from fabrication yards to offshore platforms, from refinery mega-projects to subsea pipelines, each environment adding a new layer of technical depth and responsibility.

Early in my career, working as an NDT Inspector and Welding Engineer allowed me to understand welding quality at the most granular level — defects, root causes, material behavior, and inspection techniques. Exposure to RT, UT, MT, PT, and visual inspection across pressure vessels, tanks, steel structures, and pipelines built a strong foundation in quality control and code compliance.

As my role evolved into Piping and Senior Welding Engineer positions, the scope expanded beyond inspection into planning, execution, coordination, and leadership. Managing large-scale piping quantities — hundreds of thousands of inches across carbon steel, low alloy, stainless steel, duplex, and exotic materials — demanded not only technical expertise but also strong communication with construction teams, clients, and third-party inspectors.

Offshore and subsea projects introduced a new dimension of complexity. Tight schedules, harsh environments, and zero-tolerance safety standards require absolute precision. From PLET fabrication and jumper systems to trunk lines and offshore hook-up activities, every weld becomes mission-critical. These projects reinforced a simple truth: good welding is invisible, but bad welding is unforgettable.

Today, working on international LNG and refinery projects, I continue to apply this philosophy — combining deep technical knowledge with practical field experience. The journey has proven that successful piping and welding engineering is not about theory alone; it is about disciplined execution, teamwork, and an uncompromising commitment to quality.
